We spend on average 1/3 of our lives sleeping, which means if you sleep on average 8 hours a night, you will spend over 2600 hours a year in bed. A good night sleep is directly linked to your mattress and it’s accessories.

This affects and is related to a healthier lifestyle in both physical and mental health but also can reduce stress in your household and in all of your relationships (family and business). Needless to say, we spend countless dollars on food, exercise and entertainment, but sound health starts with a good night sleep and that starts with the perfect mattress for you and your family.

How do I know I need a new mattress?
- Your mattress is 6-8 years old    - You toss and turn often during the night
- You wake up with body aches    - Your mattress is worn out and has “dipping areas” due to over-use.

Tips
for a good night's sleep

Nothing affects your quality of life more than the way you sleep. It’s a simple truth: better nights mean better days. Get the facts to help ensure you wake up refreshed, rejuvenated and ready for the day.

Creating the ideal bedroom environment
There are three things a bedroom should be in order to promote good sleep - quiet, dark and cool.

Quiet
Fans or other noise generators near the bed can help mute sleep distractions.

Light Level
Use room darkening shades or dark fabrics to reduce the amount of light leaking into the room. Eyeshades may also do the trick.

Other proven tips
Only go to bed when you are sleepy. It sounds like common sense, but many people don’t follow this rule and end up with seemingly endless tossing and turning.

Relax your mind - you will be more likely to fall asleep and stay asleep. Activities that distract your mind from the day-to-day, such as reading and meditation, have been proven to improve the cycling of slow-wave activity (non-rapid eye movement) and fast-wave activity (rapid eye movement) - meaning that you fall asleep quicker and fall back asleep faster.

If you haven’t fallen asleep after 15 or 20 minutes, get out of bed. Your brain needs to be accustomed to this ritual of going to sleep when you go to bed. Also, the distraction of a change of location will often help induce sleepness.

Don’t sweat it. Tests have proven that a preoccupation with, or apprehension about, falling asleep contributes to insomnia. Get up and read your favourite magazine. Getting your mind off of your anxiety about falling asleep is often all it takes to make it happen.

Keep a consistent schedule of getting up and going to bed. This is one of the best ways to guarantee that your body and mind will be ready to sleep and ready to awake refreshed.
